New Year, New Creation

It’s 2019; a brand-new year.
For most, the new year represents new opportunities, new goals, and a fresh start.

What are your resolutions this year?
Is it to lose those extra pounds you packed on between Halloween and Christmas?
Is it to start a new exercise program and get into better shape?
Is it to start being better with your money and get out of debt?
Or maybe this is the year where you begin a new career or go back to school?

Whatever your goal for the year might be, it’s exciting to have a clean slate and start the year fresh.

The New Year is a great visual for us as believers because it serves as a reminder of what it means to be made new. The Bible says that when we trust in Jesus, and invite him into our lives, we become a new creation.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5:17.

Isn’t that amazing?
The old self is gone and we are now seen as new and blameless in the eyes of God.
We become a new person. We have a new beginning.

Now, that doesn’t mean that we are free from struggle or pain…after all, we are still human! But, we now have the unique privilege of having God’s Spirit live within us—directing us, guiding us, and leading us.

Pause for a moment and think about last year. Was it a year of adventure, obstacles overcome, and new beginnings? Or maybe it was a year marked by hardship, loss, and struggle?

Whatever life held for you in 2018, isn’t it refreshing to be able to look forward to a new year and anticipate the hope and fresh start that it represents?

“The old is gone, the new is here!”

Consider 2019 your fresh start.
