Destinations Ministry (Empty Nesters)

DESTINATIONS  ~  Where Will Your Journey Take You?

Nearly 25% of our population is comprised of “Baby Boomers”, those adults born between 1946 and 1964.  With an average age expectancy of more than 82 years, they have plenty of time to make a difference in their families, church, and community.  That’s why we created Destinations!  A ministry that allows this demographic to develop friendships, serve others, and travel together with God’s purposes in mind.  The destinations will vary ~ day trips, group activities, special events, studies, mission work, extended travel and more.

We know that Boomers are looking for “opportunities” not “obligations”.  They want to “pick and choose” those activities that interest them and fit into their schedules (since most still work, continue to raise children, grandchildren, and provide care for their aging parents).  Destinations is not intended to replace current worship service, small group participation, or service roles but be a place to just have fun and “Do Life” together with others in the same stage of life.

The most specific purposes of Destinations will be to:

  • Inspire, encourage, educate and equip paticipants with opportunities to give their life journey purpose
  • Provide opportunities for collaborative projects
  • Identify and use spiritual gifts
  • Share the gospel with children, grandchildren, and future generations
  • Leave a legacy

“O my people, listen to my teaching. Open your ears to what I am saying, for I will speak to you in a parable. I will teach you hidden lessons from our past–stories we have heard and know, stories our ancestors handed down to us. We will not hide these truths from our children but will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord. We will tell of his power and the mighty miracles he did.”  Psalm 78:1-4

The Destinations Ministry is publishing a book called, “The Road Traveled”, legacy lessons learned from the lives of baby boomers and empty nesters.  If you would like to share your story to be included in this book, please contact Shelly at sharris630@aol.com.
